SharpE - Install Guide

SharpE is an easy program to use. Setup takes only several minutes and then you are ready to go. This step-by-step guide will walk you (it's a short walk!) through the process of getting SharpE up and running. Do take care not to become so hypnotized by the SharpElicious default theme that you forget to follow all the steps. See you on the other side!

Stable Release

Official releases which are considered stable and safe to use contain an installer that allows you to select your target installation directory and automatically sets SharpE as default. All you have to do is run this installer - it will take care of everything.

Beta or Test Release

Test releases mostly come in packed .zip files.

Step1:
Unzip the SharpE package to a new and empty folder, like "C:\SharpE\".
If not stated otherwise in the release notes it is important that you don't overwrite any older SharpE release!

Step2:
Run SharpCore.exe and select "yes" when asked if you want to set SharpE as your default shell. (This can be easily reversed later)
Don't be concerned if at this point SharpE is loading and you still have a normal Windows Taskbar running. (This will be fixed in steps 3 and 4)

Step3:
Right click the SharpCore icon (the blue cube) in the system tray and select "Separate Explorer Process". (You must be logged in as Admin to do this)
If your user account does not have Administrator privileges you either have to login as administrator or execute SharpCore as admin.

Windows 2000/XP: right click SharpCore.exe in explorer -> "run as..."
Windows Vista: right click SharpCore.exe in explorer -> "run as Administrator"

Step4:
Reboot your machine. Congratulations, you have just just loaded SharpE! It is perfectly safe to become hypnotized by the desktop now.
