Windows Versions
There are many different versions of Windows available and SharpE runs different on some versions due to internal changes in the operating system. The SharpE Developtment team is working on hard trying to make SharpE run on most versions but there are still some minor problems with certain versions. This page will give an overview how well SharpE runs on the different windows version.
Win9x, WinME, WinNT 4.0
Because of missing OS functions for creating advanced graphics interfaces (Layered Windows) SharpE will not run on any Windows version prior to Win2000. The support for those Windows versions has been completely removed from the shell and there is no chance that SharpE will work properly. Keeping the shell compatible to such old Windows version isn't worth the huge amount of work this would need.
Windows 2000
Windows XP
SharpE should work without any problems on Windows XP
Windows Vista
Compared to Windows XP there are several new features and restrictions which might cause some trouble. The most trouble causing change is the new security system which is enforced by the operating system.
SharpE should work without any major problems, but there are some minor bugs you have to get used to for now.
Known Problems:
- Applications started as administrator will not show in a SharpBar? which was not started as administrator
- Some system tray icons (like network connection) might not work properly
- The volume control module is not working due to the way the windows sound mixer changed
- The cpu monitor module is not working by default... see Perfomance Data Object on Vista for details
Windows 64 bit
SharpE has not been tested properly on any 64 bit version of windows. There will most likely be several problems caused by the changes in the 64 bit operating system.
